Stuart! Just like the White House, I would never do anything with the information passed along to me. But, if you were say... a Congressional Oversight Committee Chairman demanding the information, maybe I could tell you that Mr. (or Mrs., or Ms.) Anonymous has an IP address originating in Marietta, Georgia, and it looks like they get their Internet service from an outfit called Atlantic Nexus in Powder Springs, Georgia. Mr. Chairman, I think you'll have to subpeona Atlantic Nexus for more details. Ha!

Scott:

Can't you just do a reverse IP address check and find out if it really was the WH? That would be amazing!

Obama did this exact thing in the campaign, when all the rumors were flying around that he was a Muslim, or that he was born in Kenya. The Whitehouse seems to be asking so that they know what kind of misinformation is out there - what gives you the impression that this would be acted on?

To put it another way - we know the government has investigated various far-left and far-right groups, going so far as to attend protests and meetings as undercover agents, but for all the screaming the left did about this, no names were taken down. The gov't just wanted to see what's going on.

I really don't see what kind of misuse the Obama admin can get out of this giant e-mail list.
