I love the Politico for many reasons, but one of the key reasons is the reporters there seem to have an opportunity to do more enterprising and sometimes offbeat stories. Those stories often expose some real truths about how things work – or don’t work – in Washington, DC.
This story by Carol Lee – “The White House’s unprecedented use of ‘unprecedented’” is a perfect example. It shows, in a light-hearted way, President Obama’s prediliction to use the word “unprecedented” as a way to make it seem as if he’s the first President who has faced a certain challenge or done something specific. It’s worth a read, as I think it demonstrates the Obama Administration’s arrogance and lack of historical perspective.
Second, this editorial – “Stimulus snow job” – from President Obama’s hometown Chicago Tribune is remarkable. Local newspapers have done some outstanding work exposing the fraud of Obama’s stimulus “jobs saved or created” claims. In the editorial, they tally the falsehoods and lay bare the farce.
Finally, today I recorded a video response (below) to the Politico Arena question – “Obama’s charisma – Where did he leave it?” You can also see the video on the Arena page or on my YouTube channel. UPDATE: Dana Perino has a great response to the Politico Arena question. Check it out here.

Agree – it’s an unprecedented use of unprecedented! Historical perspective is indeed lacking.
