The Cross Country Drive ’09 (XCD09) has resumed. I left Breckenridge this morning to begin the two day drive to Seattle. I made a brief stop in Silverthorne at the PEARL iZUMi outlet store to make an exchange and pick up some running gear. Now, I’m headed west on 70, just past Glenwood Springs. It’s […]

XCD09 – Week Four Recap

It is hard to believe it has been a month since I left Washington. This week, much like last, was spent skiing in Breckenridge, training at the Breck Rec Center and relaxing. As such, this post is largely random thoughts. This weekend, I’ve been in Boulder. The more I’m here, the more I like it. […]

This week has been one of the most relaxing of XCD09. I arrived in Breckenridge on Sunday night and have spent every day but one on the slopes. I’ve just been skiing Breck, but plan to venture out to other Summit County resorts like Keystone, Arapahoe Basin and Copper Mountain soon. Vail is also a […]

Training in Breck

I’m currently midway through a bike workout at the Breckenridge Rec Center. This is my second trip to the center. It is is very nice – big pool, indoor running track, lots of equipment and a very nice view of the mountains (see rough pic below). There are some impressive athletes here, as well. Yesterday, […]

I’m cruising through Nebraska on my way to Breckenridge, CO. I got off to an early start so I could try to do most of my driving in the daylight. It’s a cold and clear day – great for a Sunday spin. I’ve been listening to XM. Ethel (channel 54) played Artist Confidential with Coldplay. […]

The Cross Country Drive ’09 (xcd09) continued this week in Iowa. On Sunday, I drove back into my homeland. The first stop was in Bettendorf, where I stopped by to see good friend and former Dole 96 compatriot Jeff Hassel. Jeff and I had a great time catching up over dinner at Old Chicago. Late […]

Breaking News: Iowa Barnstormers Gear

Just met up with Grant Young (aka G$, check out his blog at http://questionscommentsinsults.blogspot.com) for a beer and some political chat. He was kind enough to bring me a signature Iowa Barnstormers goggle hat. According to Yahoo, the Barnstormers have the eighth most recognizable football helmet logo (snoopyesque goggles). Check it out!

XCD09 – Week One Recap

I’m in the gym at the Chicago Hilton spinning away on a cybex stationary bike (no upright bikes = frustration) for today’s long workout. The snow is falling outside and makes for a pleasant view. I thought I’d share a few thoughts from week one of the cross country drive. I’ve traveled over 1750 miles […]

Cross Country Drive Itinerary

A number of friends have asked for more details on the path and timeline of the cross country drive. I’ll be posting more about the drive out of Hilton Head in a bit, but here are the basics of the journey (subject to change at whim of driver): Friday, February 13 – Drove from DC […]

Frigid Swim

Today’s prescribed workout (according to the Ironman training plan I’m following at www.trifuel.com) was a 45 minute swim.  I brought my wetsuit along on the cross country drive just in case I’d have an opportunity to do some open water swimming.  I hadn’t checked the ocean water temps before arriving in Hilton Head, so I […]
